Getaways No Comments

Even though it’s not a lot above freezing, it seems a lot warmer than last week! That’s not to say we didn’t have a great time though. We stayed at our friends Steve & Carol’s  lovely house with my sister and her new husband Jamie in the town of State College, Pensylvania. Home of Penn State university, it is a pretty cool and vibrant town due to the high proportion of 20somethings that live there because of the university. It has to be said, the facilities of the uni put most British ones to shame, although this comes at a cost of $30,000 a year.

Evenings we generally spent in bars drinking schooners of the local beer, although I did find one that does Stella!

We were also able to get away to Washington DC one day and spent the day mooching round the Smithsonian museums, the White House and zoo (the Pandas made Joy cry!!)

Everyone we met was really nice, and most had the decency to appologise for their leadership and were quick to dissasociate themselves from current foreign policy. A good reflection of current opinion can be seen at the gift shop at the White House. Replica models of past presidents ranging from $25 for Lincoln to rows of unsold Bush’s at $8. Perhaps only to be sold for voodoo purposes.

Lots of pictures to bore yourselves with on my Flickr. I gave Adobe Lightroom a quick run at processing these images, and it seems to work really well.
