While I’ve been doing my best to keep everyone “In the Loop” as regards the hoover purchase, there was one further twist. When John Lewis price match, you actually have to pay the advertised price, and once they confirm that the offer from the competitor is genuine, they refund the difference.
About a week after purchase, I recieved a letter from John Lewis which I’ve unfortunately new discarded (burned) saying that the Miele Cat & Dog S5260 is a different model than the TT5000 and as such they couldn’t price match. I must admit to being a bit taken aback that I know product ranges of domestic appliances better than people employed to know them.
Dear Mrs Hitchman,
Thank you for your letter reference 008/31722 regarding the price difference between John Lewis and Argos for the Miele Cat & Dog S5260.
When researching my purchase, I noticed that retailers differ in the description of the item, some calling it the TT5000 and some referring to it as the S5260. In fact, this is the same model, the full name being “Miele Cylinder CAT & DOG TT-5000 (S5260)”. You can check this by viewing some other retailers websites, for example

You can also confirm this by speaking to a member of Miele’s product support team by phoning them on 08707 554466.
I hope this is enough information for you to confirm these products are one and the same. I would appreciate a fairly quick response as I would have to consider returning the product and purchasing from Argos if this cannot be resolved.
Many Thanks
That letter prompty sat in the side compartment of my Laptop bag for the next 2 weeks until Joy reminded me and posted it. Then today, look what fell through the letterbox (Click to enlarge)

Get in!!! Argos had been out of stock for months as well due to having been hotdealsuk’d (the middle aged woman equivelent of being slashdotted)!

Just noticed on Channel 4’s Wife Swap that none other than Thatcherite 80’s magician Paul Daniels owns the TT5000.
I’m sure he gets many hours of enjoyment cleaning with it. Not a lot.

The time had come for a new vacuum cleaner, having admitted defeat with the Panasonic bagless stand up cleaner that I’d had for the last 3 years. It had started spitting out more dust than it was sucking up even though in all honesty, I wouldn’t really describe it as having been “Over Used”!
Recently I had seen a cylinder Dyson owned by Suze that aesthetically, is without doubt the best looking vacuum cleaner I have ever seen. Dyson’s also come with a 5 year guarantee which is pretty impressive. Although I have heard rumours that since production was moved to Singapore, the reliability may have suffered.
My parents also were in the market for a new vacuum recently, and opted for a blue Henry. As we were over for diner on Sunday, I gave it a quick test drive. The suction power was pretty impressive, and they are very good value for money, but unfortunately, they do lack a decent number of attachments and require a fair bit of storage space.
After spending Sunday evening and Monday morning extensively researching, I located a model that seemed perfect for our needs, and had an extremely good reputation amongst the various cleaning forums I investigated.

John Lewis kindly price matched the Miele TT5000 Cat and Dog for the best price I found online at £149.99 and after picking one up at lunch, I was able to give it a full test drive this evening.
The first thing that strikes you is the volume, as in, there is very little for what you would expect from a 2200 watt model. The power increases over a 10 second period to the maximum, rather than immediately coming on full blast. It really is noticeable over past cleaners I have used as well. On full power it really does pull the carpet from the floor. The other great thing about these cleaner is the amount of accessories supplied as standard. Most vacuums in this category are supplied with upholstery nozzles, a dusting brush and a crevice brush, which of course the TT5000 comes with as standard (which can be stored internally). But in addition, the TT5000 sports no fewer than 3 main heads. One for normal carpets (switchable by footswitch to hard floors), a smaller head for getting into nooks and crannies, and a head specifically designed for picking up cat/dog hair.
In summary, I would recommend the TT5000 to everyone. Don’t be fooled by the name - Although it is fantastic for pet owners, it is supplied with regular brushes as standard as well and this function should be viewed as an addition, rather than its primary function. A wide variety of functions and a good length automatically retractable cord all help make the Miele TT5000 a pleasure to use, and mean you will actually look forward to the room getting dusty, just so you can get it out again.
